“Come close to God and God will come close to you.”
–James 4:8
Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful.
–2 Chronicles 31:21
Intimacy with God begins with God. He desires our closeness. He wants to be with us. So he made the way clear for us to draw near. Then he placed a similar desire in our hearts. Desire calling us and our desire either ignoring or responding. Hezekiah responded by seeking that closeness “wholeheartedly.” In other words, he intentionally and with great longing aimed at finding a place close to God. we are not told the exact results but the text tells us that as a result he was “very successful.”
I don’t think the Holy Spirit meant that everything Hezekiah touched turned to gold or that all he undertook succeeded. What I think the text is saying is that his seeking was successful.
Jesus said, “Seek and you shall find.” Seek wholeheartedly like Hezekiah, and you will be successful at finding that One your heart seeks.
Father, show me the “thin-place.” The place between this realm and yours that is the thinnest between your heart and mine. I choose today, now, to come close. Thank you for coming close to me this morning. Thank you for my success at finding you so near. Bless all who seek you “wholeheartedly”–with nothing else to distract their hearts.
