I believe that they were people of deep conviction, great strength, and determined faith. They knew that Texas would never be won without determined vision and longsuffering. Together they took the future and gave birth to one of the finest states in our union. By the way, the mug on my desk says “Honorary Texan.” I value it. I also valued my time there at East Texas State University (for the semester I lasted). Cowhill was never the same.
Those were the days before I knew what I know today about faith, human nature, and God’s purposes in a life. The journey has taken me far from those east Texas days, but I remain grateful and wish Texas and proud Texans everywhere, a happy birthday!
QUESTION: Does Texas still have men and women of the stature of those who gave birth to that great state? What’s your opinion?
