Writing is an act of love for the “Christian” writer (the writer who is not merely Christian in the sense of a religious identity, but rather a true follower and disciple of Jesus—one who partakes in his very nature and personality by way of God’s inhabiting presence [Gal. 2:20 cf. 2 Pt. 1:4). I say for “the disciple of Jesus” because other writers may write from any number of motives—money, the need to be heard or speak, boredom—but the disciple writes for love.
This kind of writer gives in secret. All alone the Christian writer gives shape to thoughts and emotions that spring from fellowship with Christ and their desire is to express love for Christ and all whom He loves. I long to know Christ and to make him known. What he shows me in my writing is–that self-giving is the expression of love. And this solitary act of writing is an act of love, at first hidden and unseen. Only later does the Lord bring it out into the open. And then, not all, but only that which He would commend.
How I desire for my body of work, my writing, to help my brothers and sisters to Know Him better and to Make Him Known. That His love might be my highest aim. I keep thinking that perhaps if I give myself to this lonely work, their experience will be one of great blessing and communion with Christ and the church.
Perhaps in this solitary expression of my heart, in these hours days and weeks of parading symbols across a blank white page, a receptive heart and mind will soar into greater heights with Jesus. Perhaps this place at my computer keyboard is the place where my gifts and life-experience, my love for Jesus and my heavenly Father will speak to a hungry heart and lift it into the courts of the New Jerusalem. Maybe, this time alone can unveil a view from the Mountains of Pomegranates. This aloneness, this word-smything, then connects me with all human hearts through my love for my Savior.
Thank you Lord for the gift of writing.
BACKGROUND & DISCLAIMER: [The following is an open letter I wrote to young leaders (and friends) I’m coaching. I wrote it to suggest a course of action in response to the growing global menace of covert, Qur’anic Islam. The email embedded in the letter is set off by >>>>>>>>. I did not write the email nor do I agree with every view of its author.
Upon research I found that though it made bogus source-claims, it states some important truths whomever the author].
An Open Letter to the sons I coach,
Given my studies in both Medieval Islam and the History of the Ottoman Empire, I found the following email very interesting and believable, though it’s not what it claims to be (it never appeared in any Spanish newspaper or publication). Even so, what it says about Islam is verifiable.
I do not consider the article racist either, or culturally insensitive or whatever other politically correct label could be pinned to it. Truth is never racist. Speaking what is true is not intolerance. Remember, that this world-system rejects the Truth–Jesus. The world does not know or receive truth. Jesus made it clear that only those who hungered and thirsted for righteousness would find what they were looking for.
Islam is a covert religion which has no qualms about deception to accomplish its purposes. Deception is permitted, even encouraged. This belief is called “El Takria.”
Saladin, one of the early military heroes of Islam, asked the question: Why choose peace when we have the upper hand? Peace is only spoken when we are not yet in power.
The early Crusades were a mix of defensive campaigns against a violent and aggressive religion, fueled by the greed of popes and kings. But the truth is that if the Crusades had not beat back Islam, we would all be under Sharia law today (the global intent and goal of Islam). Because Islam is not only one religion among many, it is a political system that believes in subjugating people to accomplish its purposes.
The final verse in Qur’an is called the “Verse of the Sword.” Sirah 9:5 says – “Kill the unbeliever wherever you find them . . . “ [“unbeliever” refers to anyone of any religion who will not acknowledge–and embrace–Allah as God and Mohammad as his Prophet.]
Jihadist (fundamental) Muslims (as opposed to nominal Muslims) do not commit suicide. That’s not the way they view it; that’s the West’s view. Recently, I heard the Muslim side presented:
Jihadists are not committing suicide, they are assuring their salvation through supreme sacrifice to the rule of Allah worldwide. See 9:111
Islam is, and always has been, a religion of violence. Muslims who deny this are one of three types: ignorant of their own holy writings, lying, or nominal in their beliefs. True believers, educated in their faith know that Islam demands the violent subjugation of everything under Allah.
You can see its violence in the everyday lives of those who live in Muslim lands. All their texts mandate war and violence (47.4). All other faiths must be suppressed or destroyed to impose the order of Allah–Sharia Law–over all. Peace, in their definition, is only when all has been subjected to Allah. Then and only then can there be peace. Until then anything that stands in the way is to be converted or destroyed.
MAIN PROBLEM? The Holy Spirit says that all things are being made subject, not to Allah, but to Jesus
As a result, I agree with Benjamin Net when he says:
‘If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel.” –Benjamin Netanyahu
So I have sent the following article/email along to you in order to better inform you. I did not write it, but I agree with much of it.
ALL EUROPEAN LIFE DIED IN AUSCHWITZ
By Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez
I walked down the street in Barcelona , and suddenly discovered a terrible truth – Europe died in Auschwitz … We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.
The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.
And under the pretense of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty, due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.
They have blown up our trains and turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.
Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.
And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.
We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs.
What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe …

The Jews are NOT promoting brain washing children in military training camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up and cause maximum deaths of Jews and other non Muslims. The Jews don’t hijack planes, nor kill athletes at the Olympics, or blow themselves up in German restaurants. There is NOT one single Jew who has destroyed a church. There is NOT a single Jew who protests by killing people.
The Jews don’t traffic slaves, nor have leaders calling for Jihad and death to all the Infidels.
Perhaps the world’s Muslims should consider investing more in standard education and less in blaming the Jews for all their problems.
Muslims must ask ‘what can they do for humankind’ before they demand that humankind respects them.
Regardless of your feelings about the crisis between Israel and the Palestinians and Arab neighbors, even if you believe there is more culpability on Israel ‘s part, the following two sentences really say it all:
‘If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel .” —Benjamin Netanyahu
General Eisenhower Warned Us It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.
He did this because he said in words to this effect:
Get it all on record now – get the films – get the witnesses – because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened
Recently, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it ‘offends’ the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. It is not removed as yet. However, this is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the, 6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians, and 1,900 Catholic priests who were ‘murdered, raped, burned, starved, beaten, experimented on and humiliated’ while many people looked the other way.
Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be ‘a myth,’ it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.
How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center ‘NEVER HAPPENED’ because it offends some Muslim in the United States ?
Our response should be to ask Father to draw the hearts of all Muslims to Messiah, Jesus. We must seek the Lord on their behalf. We must ask Him to display His love for them through signs and wonders–sons and daughters healed, blind receiving sight, lame uncles and fathers walking again, disturbed jihadists delivered from demons. That’s how we love our enemies.
We must not operate in the same spirit as they and other religious fanatics (wherever they’re found) do [see my post, Why I Despise Religion]. For those zealous for God, but lacking in understanding, always serve murder and vengeance. Murder and terror are NOT THE SPIRIT OF MESSIAH or FATHER. We are ambassadors of love. And if love will not work in this world, then this world is undeserving of us. As it is, we an outpost of the Kingdom of our Lord and God. We MUST reflect Him and His character–which is the complete OPPOSITE of Allah.
Even Muslims know this, that’s why their religious zeal seeks to convert or kill Christians “wherever they are found.” Their book, which they consider the word of God, says specifically addressed to Christians:
Allah is only one God; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector. —the Women, 4.171
I remember the wisdom of my Professor of World Missions at GCTS–J. “Cristy” Wilson. He served for 15 years as a missionary in Afghanistan and became familiar with Islam and its mindset. He said to our class:
“A Muslim will NEVER be reached by an argument [biblical truth].”
He will only be reached by the Power and Love of God. He must see the miraculous in signs and wonders. He must see the love of Jesus in those who claim fellowship with Him. This is the only Evangelism that will impress him.
So . . . I’m praying “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Remove the veil from their hearts and minds. I’m also asking God to defeat the religious spirits at work in ALL religions. That Messiah, Jesus, may be clearly seen. That His Spirit alone will reign over the hearts of men and women of peace. Only then will the world be a safe place to raise our children.

Ideal mothers reflect the nature and character of God to their circle of love. They embody and reflect His ability to create life, His intimate care, sacrificial love, generosity of spirit, and enduring faithfulness.
But there are all kinds of mothers. Some good, some not so good. Some nurturing, some neglectful. Some sacrificial, some self-centered. Some mature, some immature. Some wise, others unwise.
The godly mother, one who reflects God, will reflect certain traits. The godly mother:
- Always loves. She lays down her life for those in her love circle. She knows their love-languages and seeks to speak theirs, not hers. She cares for and nurtures her household. This love is not based upon emotion. The love she has for her children is the deep agape-love that God has for us. That love knows no barriers to sacrifice for the beloved. If you have a bible, read the First Letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13. It’s known as the love chapter. In the verses that describe love, one can substitute various proper nouns for “Love” as an exercise that enhances our understanding and insight into love. For instance, where it says “Love is kind” or “Love keeps no record of wrongs” As an exercise, we do well to substitute “God” (for we know that God is Love). So that the verse would read “God” is kind. “God” keeps no record of wrongs, etc. A godly mother is also His child, so we could as easily substitute her name for “love.” And read the verse. Mothers don’t shine perfectly, but we see a definite reflection. Even the best ungodly mothers manifest His love for their children; they simply don’t acknowledge the source.
- Spends quiet, unhurried time with Father like the recently breast-fed child laying on her mother’s chest (Ps. 131). She gets that picture. That’s the source of her wisdom. Unhurried, quiet time with her Father. She knows that she needs His nourishment, His Spirit in order to calm and settle the anxieties of mothering. She is wise enough to know that He is not only her source, but the source for her family. And her life subsists of those islands of sitting still and KNOWING that God is there for her and hers.
- Knows that wisdom (the knowledge to choose the right path among two or more) is not something she possesses.Wisdom is in a person–Jesus, who indwells those who submit to God. She has discovered that His ways are infinitely better than hers. The ungodly woman believes that she is the source of her own wisdom. What a bankrupt place that must be. Only the strongest delusion could make a man or woman conceited enough to think that they have the wisdom to navigate life successfully. The godly woman is wise because she is not the fountain of wisdom and knows it. But she knows the One who is wise. And He speaks to her both in His written, revealed will (the Bible) and in his quiet inner voice.
- Walks by faith (Heb. 12.1, 35; Matt. 15.28) She KNOWS what God is saying about those in her love circle. And she trusts God for the outcome. Not only does she walk by faith, her walk is an example to her children and grandchildren. Faith can be inherited (2 Ti. 1.5). She imparts that faith to her family.
- Knows when to “Let go” She trusts God fully for her own. She lets go of the reins at the right time. Especially with her boys. Men must learn to stand, to be responsible without fear in the world. Fathers get this; moms don’t always. Moms nurture and protect. Relating in a less directive manner is often difficult for them. Yet once the boys reach adolescence, if she continues to parent them in a directive manner, she will lose them (at least through their early manhood). Unless . . . she is wise. If she allows them to become men and gives counsel instead of directive mothering, her boys will not resent what they perceive as “nagging” and a lack of respect. Strings MUST be cut. How she does this will determine their future relationship.
- Trains others. The godly, wise mother passes what she knows on to other women. In Titus, the second chapter, the older women are directed to train up the younger women in the way they love their husbands and conduct their households. That relieved many women of undue stress. They had successful mentors–spiritual women whom they could respect. They could see before their eyes the fruit of a godly woman’s life.
These are at least a few values and actions that, in my opinion, will be found in a wise, godly mother.
QUESTION: What are some you might add? I’m sure I’ve missed some.

“Draw me after you and let us run together!
–Song of Songs 1:1
Every election season (like the one coming for 2012), candidates for the Presidency of the United States descend upon and woo the residents of New Hampshire as though all along each one was in love with us. Why are they so in love with New Hampshire? I heard one candidate say that he felt like he was “one of us”–a citizen of the granite state.
The truth is that as soon as the last primary was over, boxes were packed and planes were boarded and off they went to the next state where the same rhetoric wooed the citizens of that state. We overlook it and take it with a grain of salt because “That’s politics.”
I’m so glad that Jesus is not like that. He woos us because He really loves us. He courts us because He’s the Bridegroom and we’re the Bride. For Him, it’s not a game to be played to get something from us. He’s in love with His church to GIVE something to us–Himself . . . His love . . . His LIFE.
The response of our heart is “Draw me after you and let us run together!” Candidates may come and go, but the One who deserves our attention will not leave New Hampshire. He will not leave you. He’s not after your vote. He wants your heart. He is faithful. Let’s run together after Him.

I was just sitting here, posting my wife’s latest blog post, and the thought came to me: Marcy is so cool. My wife is really more than cool–she’s wonderful! I don’t know anyone like her. Not only is she thankful for water (her post), not only does she love the Lord, not only is she REAL in a world of imitation and plastic, not only does she take an interest in everyone around her and make their lives a little better; but she chose to love me. WOW!
Her love has given me the acceptance and stability I needed in my life to allow the Lord to develop character in me. Nothing that concerns me slips past her notice. I’m amazed! Daily!
Her heart, wisdom, and character have been an example to me for 34 years (32 of which we’ve been married, one of which we dated and one of which we were engaged). I’ve watched her walk with Jesus and seen the genuineness of that walk. I’ve encouraged her as she’s navigated cancer and strengthened her immune system for the past three years.
Next to Jesus . . . she’s my hero.
Marcy just had another birthday. We’re shooting for 50 Years of marriage, Lord willing. I’d tell you her age, but like she says: “Age is only a number . . . and mine’s unlisted.” Or she might say, “Can you keep a secret?” When you answer “Yes” and draw close to hear . . . she’ll say, “So can I.”
One last comment about our marriage. It would not be what it is if Jesus were not at the center of it. He brought us together as best friends and so we remain . . . Marcy is my best friend!
